This year’s Halloween season was a special one for Suzanne Muldowney, who brought her beloved character, Underdog, to life in a series of parades that spanned multiple towns across New Jersey. To mark Underdog’s 60th anniversary, Suzanne donned a unique iridescent cape, capturing the spirit and energy of this enduring character in dazzling style.
Sea Isle City – October 18th
The tour began in Sea Isle City on Friday, October 18th, where Suzanne took to the streets in her striking Underdog costume. Her portrayal of Underdog earned her the “Best Adult Costume” medal, marking a triumphant start to her Halloween season.

Williamstown – October 19th
The following day, Suzanne traveled to Williamstown and was awarded a “Special Costume Recognition” for her portrayal of Underdog. However, the celebration took an unfortunate turn during her journey when a sudden stop on the bus led to an accident. Suzanne sustained a head injury with a visible gash over her eyebrow. Despite recommendations from EMTs to seek medical attention, Suzanne, undeterred, chose to continue her tour, knowing the following day held another Halloween parade.
Cape May – October 20th

Suzanne’s persistence paid off as she made her way to Cape May on Sunday, October 20th. There, her commitment was rewarded with two prestigious honors: the “Best TV/Movie Character Award” and the “4th Annual Linda Ewing Halloween Achievement Award.” Her embodiment of Underdog was, once again, a crowd favorite.

Middle Township – October 23rd
On Wednesday, October 23rd, Suzanne performed at Middle Township, NJ. Although there was no music available, she creatively struck Underdog’s classic heroic poses while the emcee recited some of the character’s most iconic lines:
– “There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here!”
– “Speed of lightning, roar of thunder, fighting all who rob or plunder – Underdog.”
– “When trouble strikes I am not slow, It’s hip, hip, hip and away I go!”
Ocean City – October 24th
The next stop in Ocean City, NJ, on Thursday, October 24th, presented some unexpected challenges. Suzanne was assigned a spot before a marching band. The band’s brisk pace kept Suzanne on her toes, as she kept an eye out to avoid being overtaken her left shoelace became untied and she could not stop to tie it. She also had to scream for the band to stop advancing so she could perform at the grandstand. From the time she left the grandstand and through the rest of the route she had trouble keeping ahead of the band because of her one loose shoe.Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in, tying her shoelace at the end of the route “I am very grateful to this unnamed heroine.”
Cape May’s Final Halloween Appearance – October 31st
On Halloween night, Suzanne returned to Cape May, this time dressed as Spectrum the Ghost King. Traditionally, Suzanne performs a late-night dance on the beach to “usher the spirits” at the behest of the Ghost King. However, due to the new moon’s darkness, the beach was enveloped in shadow, making it difficult for her ritual dance. Undeterred, Suzanne found solace on her hotel balcony, dancing under the invisible moonlight.

With Halloween behind her, Suzanne now rests and prepares for the final leg of her Underdog 60th anniversary tour—the Christmas season parades. It’s safe to say that the spirit of Underdog will shine brightly into the holiday season, as Suzanne Muldowney brings her cherished character to life once again.
